This is your sign to spend 3 days in Galveston, Texas🌊

We spent three days exploring Galveston with @galvestonisland and we’re already plotting the trip back. Victorian mansions, sunrise over the Gulf, fresh seafood on the water, and a downtown straight out of the 1800s. Here’s how we’d spend three days.

What to do

🏘 The Galveston Historic District, blocks of cute shops, historical buildings and boutiques

🚗 Carriage Haus Rentals @carriagehausrentals, golf carts dressed up like antique cars, and the most fun way to cruise the historic district and the seawall

🏛 The 1895 Moody Mansion @1895moodymansion, a 28,000 square foot home where the self guided tour takes you through 20 rooms of island history

🏰 The 1892 Bishop’s Palace, Galveston’s grandest Victorian, which sheltered hundreds of islanders during the 1900 storm

🎡 The Historic Pleasure Pier @ghpleasurepier, an amusement park built out over the Gulf

👻 The Haunted Harbor Tour with @hauntedharbortours, a whole different side of the island and its history after dark

🏄 Galveston Island State Park @galvestonislandstatepark, where you can hike the trails, paddleboard like we did, and spot some wildlife along the way

What to eat

🦐 Katie’s Seafood House @katiesseafoodhouse for fresh Gulf seafood and waterfront dining

🥤 Star Drug Store, the oldest drug store in Texas, go for lunch and be sure to try the famous milkshakes

🍳 Sugar & Rye @sugarandrye_galveston for breakfast or lunch, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu

🎣 Jimmy’s on the Pier @jimmys_on_the_pier, where lunch comes with Gulf views in every direction, then stroll the pier or cast a line before you leave

☕ Seawall Coffee Company @seawallcoffeecompany for coffee, a fresh baked scone, and a case full of baked goods

Where to stay

🏨 The San Luis Resort
@thesanluisresort, our waterfront balcony room was the best way to start every day, the outdoor pool area is incredible, and the resort has everything you need just minutes from the rest of the island.

Have you been to Galveston yet?

📌 Save this for your Galveston trip and send it to your travel buddy 🤳

Father Reportedly Chased Oregon School Shooter Into Building and Shot Him Dead: But 4 Innocent Lives Were Still Lost

A father is being credited in early reports with stopping a deadly school shooting in Oregon after reportedly following a teenage gunman into an elementary school and shooting him. However, the heroic intervention came after four innocent people, including three young children, lost their lives.

The shooting unfolded Thursday, October 15, at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, where a 16-year-old gunman allegedly opened fire with a shotgun. The victims included children ages 5, 8, and 11, along with a teacher. Another 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old educator were critically injured. The 5-year-old has been identified as Rhoam Summer.

While authorities have confirmed that an armed civilian killed the shooter, emergency dispatch recordings suggest the man was a father at the school. Police have not officially confirmed whether the person was a parent. Nevertheless, the New York Post has identified the man as a “student’s dad.” Channel 2 Now also identified the hero who took down the shooter as Kaylub Giamanco.

According to emergency radio communications reported by the New York Post and Clarín, dispatchers initially alerted responding officers that the shooter had been stopped.

“Looks like the shooter has been neutralized – possibly shot by a father at the school,” a dispatcher reportedly stated.

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz explained that the civilian witnessed the gunman entering the elementary school and decided to follow him inside.

Rather than fleeing the area, the armed individual confronted the 16-year-old as officers raced toward the building.

“Moments later, an officer reported that the suspect had been shot by a community member who had seen the suspect enter the school, and pursued him into the school and engaged him,” Krantz explained during a Thursday evening press conference.

The civilian fatally shot the suspect inside the school. Officers subsequently entered, confirmed the shooter’s death and began searching the building for victims and additional threats.
