It’s been a few days now and I’m still processing the fact that you’re really gone. I’ve been trying to find the words to process this. To somehow define the hurt we’re all feeling. The best I can do is that I have all of this love for you still that I don’t know where to put anymore.
I’ll miss your smile. The funny stories and inappropriate jokes you’d tell. How no matter what was going on, you were never in a bad mood. The way you treated my friends like family. The limitless optimism you had about the Jets. The naps you’d take with our pup Ollie. The way you were always ready to make us a cocktail whenever we visited. Your interest in anything and everything that I did, no matter how mundane it could be. Your ability to befriend total strangers. I could go on and on forever. I just miss you immensely.
It breaks my heart that you won’t be able to meet our baby girl. She would have adored you. The next best thing I can do is pour my purpose into being the most exceptional father and human I can be. Because that’s exactly what you did for me. You were and will always be my definition of what it means to be a great man. I am honored and humbled to have been lucky enough to be your son.
Rest easy, Dad. I love you with all of my being.

40 years of my life with this caring, considerate, man. He honestly taught me everything I know and that includes how to raise boys by being one of the “boys” himself. I am the mom I am today because of his guidance and support. I miss him already, but I do feel his presence around me. He told me he would never leave us and I’m holding him to that promise. He loved you very much and we loved him.
