Busking Kochi turns three today.

I have been thinking about our last major busking event which happened a few weeks ago in RIT Kottayam for their fest @rit.utsav . My usual partners in crime @devika.sajeev and @aju_no_motto couldn’t join me as they both were held up. @sreehari_siva who had been staying at my place then, was excited about this. On one random sunday evening in Fort Kochi, we met the bundle of joy that calls itself @vangogh_valath . Had been meaning to busk with @thirodhaanam for a while now and he came down in spite of his upcoming exams. He brought with him the super talented @poomathai.theatre collective. So within a span of 2-3 days the event was ON. @sreehari_siva shared an idea of making paintings a bit more of an interactive exercise where people could participate more in the process for them to understand the joy of etching. I felt like it was a very interesting pursuit to take up.
So on the day of the event, there was a huge canvas of which Sree would sketch from one end and van gogh would sketch from the other. The middle portion was left for the students. It was also the second last day of the fest so it was practically impossible to get enough people to join forces with us but still many joined us and sketched with them. Still after the end of the day, the work was incomplete. Sreehari suggested to leave the sketch pens behind and for them to complete it.

This was the first Ritu that was happening after ages because of the pandemic and the outgoing batch who organised it, had to go through a good deal of difficulty to make this happen. I told them how what Sreehari and Vangogh drew unintentionally but effectively sums up Ritu‘23 for them.

At one end there is the terror and fear associated with the pandemic and on the other is human being who is immobilised and lonely and they have to fill that white space with colours of RITU. The next day, I got a WhatsApp from the organisers which had the picture now completed by the students of the campus. It had little butterflies, colours and a lot of heart! The last image on this slider is why I do what I do. Thank you for everything you have given me! Happy Birthday Busking Kochi!
