Big Congratulations to our Resident Calligrapher @aju_no_motto who got an opportunity to exhibit his Calligraphy Works at the International Calligraphy Festival
In this video, Aju talks about his journey and the process of creating artworks which border between the written word and the visual art.

One of the highlights of this week was this evening in Kalikotta Palace. I had always frequented the palace as an audience listening to stalwarts, watching stalwarts and getting inspired and humbled.
This evening I got to be on stage and with my brother @sanidasifali , the legendary creator Mohandas sir, and the infectious and inspirational presence of the famed caricature artist @sajjive sir.
We got to celebrate the 50 years of Mohandas sirs dreamy characters and he was kind enough to live sketch kapeesh and later Mayavi breaking out of the bottle.
We also got to speak about the relevance of independent comix movement and the need for comics. @indycomicscommune had a lot of new followers in the page that day. I got to quote Spiegelman’s. “Comics are the last bastions of literacy”. We spoke about the independent art movement of busking and the works of @buskingkochi and how we need such counter movements of conversations.
Of course we spoke about AI.
After the talk, Sanid and I sold some comics while we busked.
Left back with countless core memories.
Thank you KRAFT’24! You were very kind in reaffirming faith in an extremely anxious artist!

Busking Kochi turns three today.
.
I have been thinking about our last major busking event which happened a few weeks ago in RIT Kottayam for their fest @rit.utsav . My usual partners in crime @devika.sajeev and @aju_no_motto couldn’t join me as they both were held up. @sreehari_siva who had been staying at my place then, was excited about this. On one random sunday evening in Fort Kochi, we met the bundle of joy that calls itself @vangogh_valath . Had been meaning to busk with @thirodhaanam for a while now and he came down in spite of his upcoming exams. He brought with him the super talented @poomathai.theatre collective. So within a span of 2-3 days the event was ON. @sreehari_siva shared an idea of making paintings a bit more of an interactive exercise where people could participate more in the process for them to understand the joy of etching. I felt like it was a very interesting pursuit to take up.
So on the day of the event, there was a huge canvas of which Sree would sketch from one end and van gogh would sketch from the other. The middle portion was left for the students. It was also the second last day of the fest so it was practically impossible to get enough people to join forces with us but still many joined us and sketched with them. Still after the end of the day, the work was incomplete. Sreehari suggested to leave the sketch pens behind and for them to complete it.
.
This was the first Ritu that was happening after ages because of the pandemic and the outgoing batch who organised it, had to go through a good deal of difficulty to make this happen. I told them how what Sreehari and Vangogh drew unintentionally but effectively sums up Ritu‘23 for them.
.
At one end there is the terror and fear associated with the pandemic and on the other is human being who is immobilised and lonely and they have to fill that white space with colours of RITU. The next day, I got a WhatsApp from the organisers which had the picture now completed by the students of the campus. It had little butterflies, colours and a lot of heart! The last image on this slider is why I do what I do. Thank you for everything you have given me! Happy Birthday Busking Kochi! by @buskingkochi

Busking is two different extremes of the creative process for me. One where I have a fun conversation with someone I am meeting for the first time and the other is spent in silence thinking about what to write.

@rit.utsav team were the most wholesomest enthu bunch of folks who ensured that all our buskers had to only think about process of creation. More importantly I have more pictures to feed my upcoming narcissist.
.
Pictures taken by @bert.al_ , the one man Media Guy of @poomathai.theatre and the organisers of the fest.

Hugs to the good folks who made this day whole!

I don't exactly know why I was thinking of @badushacartoonman today.

The first time and the only time I met the cartoonman was when we were doing a 10 day marathon busking as a part of @krithifest2020 . We had a cute little corner to sit and busk for the good folks who came there for their love for languages. If we are to go by superhero terminologies, it was the 'cartoon kids' (cartoon man's kids) who first noticed a bunch of idiots sitting and busking. They came running right to the visual artists there to ask for paper and colours because they wanted to sit and paint with us.

Then came along the cartoonman himself who asked us what we were doing. He was so excited by the idea of busking and he told me how he himself was a busking cartoonists who drew one minute sketches of people. We spoke about his work for the Flood Relief and I told him how @buskingkochi took its current form when I got some artists to busk for the flood relief.

When I told him how anyone can join us to busk, he offered to sketch me. I obediently sat down. He also mentioned how my canines give me a geeky luttappi feel.

Two years later, when @nithinthesedays shared with me the news of Badusha Cartoomman's death due to COVID-19, I went back to the evening when I was sketched by an artist who was too pure at heart and his little energy bundles who won our hearts.

Fast forward 2 years, this time we were organising the Indie Comix Fest and I had my fellow buskers busk that day with us. @sajjive walked past us and saw us busk and joined in with his iPad to draw one minute cartoons. He asked me to sit down for a sketch and I obediently agreed. He is also the artist behind image 2. Both of them pictured me with a typewriter in almost similar fashion.

When I thought of @badushacartoonman today, i googled him and found that Cartoonman considered @sajjive as his ideological guru. If you look at both of their sketches, they are mirror images like how a good teacher ought to be. A mirror to show you who you are and can be.

Among the gifts that busking has given me, this cameo that I got to play in the lives of these two pure and gentle artists, ranks right there amongst the top.

Busking at the Indie Comics Fest 2022, Kochi Edition (@indiecomixfest ) was just what we needed to get back to busking in the city again. Hugs to the good people at @indycomicscommune for having us over. Hugs to everyone who sat down to talk to us.
Special shoutout to the super sport @sajjive sir who happily sat and busked with us for a while after seeing what we were up to. All in all, a good day for Busking in Kochi.

Throwback to the time when we were given the opportunity to busk for 10 whole days of @krithifest2020 , the literary fest organised with the help of Govt. or Kerala. The 10 days were LIT and we had a lot of fun listening to stories from strangers who loved the literary pursuits in life.

#buskingkochi #buskingevent by @buskingkochi

Okay we took our own sweet time to get back to busk but it's happening tomorrow at the @indiecomixfest Kochi edition. So come off to French Toast Kacherippadi to meet the Buskers and make art!

The Art of Stillness
.
.
Yes we've been dormant for almost two years now. No art has been shared here. We have a small whatsapp group of buskers who regularly joined us during our sessions. Today in that group we all tried making plans to meet today but life again got in the way. Just like life got in the way for the past two years from doing this activity we loved. Later in the night, one of our buskers @nithinthesedays sends these from Germany. These are photos of buskers performing a tableaux only to teach us that there is art in stillness. That's what we've realised from the past two years. To understand the stillness. We've savoured the stillness and we know we would want to make art with the world again. I know a lot of buskers waiting to go out there and turn you into art. So just happy to let everyone know we are back in the business of bringing art to you. So instead of let's start, let us all say together "Let's art!". Follow this space to know when. by @buskingkochi

When Busking Kochi celebrated it's second birthday, we had a round of online busking sessions and the first round was done by the talented @_indulekha !

She busked for @_meet.arya and @vishnu.chakravarthy separately and voila, it was a single story, a beautiful narrative.

Later, Indu and Vishnu were able to meet and the art was handed over.

Here is that work. 🌼
