We’ve been working on something special — and it’s finally time to share it with you! In their first-ever safari off Sesame Street, Elmo and friends travelled all the way to Nairobi to meet Elmo’s adopted elephant and the rest of our Nursery herd. SESAME STREET AND THE GREAT ELEPHANT ADVENTURE premieres tonight, 14 October, at 8/7c on PBS.

@sesamestreet first aired in 1969, just a few years before the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was established. For more than five decades, the beloved television series has been a guiding light for generations, all from one familiar street. It was an honour to host Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and Nina on their once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa. We hope you enjoy watching the episode as much as we enjoyed creating it. (And no one loved it more than the elephants — they were absolutely enchanted by their new Muppet friends!)

Thank you to @sesameworkshop, @pbsnature, @pbs, and @pbskids for bringing this extraordinary experience to life. We feel sure it will spark curiosity in young viewers and inspire families to explore the natural world together.

Black Copper, Silver Threads: China's Hidden Metal Art |乌铜走银：黑底银丝的中国绝技 #山白 #shanbai #China
Black-copper silver-walking is a Chinese metal craft founded during the Qing dynasty's Yongzheng era and now a national intangible cultural heritage. Historically ranked alongside Beijing cloisonné as one of "the two great metal crafts under heaven," it uses a body of red copper fused with trace gold and silver, repeatedly forged into thin sheets. The craftsman chases fine floral patterns into the black copper, cuts narrow grooves, then applies precise heat to melt pure silver—liquid silver flows along the channels until every line is filled. Finally the piece is rubbed by hand again and again; body heat and sweat oxidize the black copper surface to a deep, glossy black, while the silver lines stay bright white. Some areas are further fire-gilded in gold. Black ground, silver threads, occasional gold—a pinnacle of Chinese metalwork.
