Towering above the streets of Mexico City, La Catrina is one of the most recognisable symbols of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The elegantly dressed skeleton represents the belief that death comes for everyone, regardless of wealth or social status. Originally popularised by Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada, the character later became an iconic figure in Mexican culture. During Day of the Dead celebrations, enormous Catrina sculptures, colourful parades and elaborate decorations transform public spaces across Mexico. These displays honour deceased loved ones while celebrating the country’s rich artistic traditions and cultural heritage. For the 2026 celebrations, Mexico City unveiled a record breaking Catrina measuring approximately 33.4 metres tall in the historic Zócalo square. Created by around 140 artists and technicians, the enormous figure features a flowing purple dress and stands among thousands of marigolds. The installation celebrates Mexico’s traditions of remembrance and will remain on display until November 2. 🇲🇽💀🌼

Oh my! THE REDS! ❤️ Word Magazine’s Diwali party at The Late Checkout came with one dress code: Red, a little or a lot. And did the guests deliver? They absolutely did! Red in every possible avatar. In the clothes, woven into hair, painted on lips, dangling from ears, wrapped around wrists, and showing up in shoes and bags. A little pop of red here, a whole lot of red there. No two interpretations quite alike, but every bit fabulous. It was a house full of gorgeous people, all dressed in their best reds, bringing their own brand of drama, glamour and festive cheer. A sea of red, a whole lot of style, and just the right amount of Diwali madness. Now that’s how you do a dress code! Thank you @nandinibhalla and @thewordmagazine
