The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board’s move to introduce common themes for Friday sermons at mosques under its control has drawn criticism from National Conference leader Imran Nabi Dar, who questioned the role of the authorities in deciding what religious preachers should discuss. The Waqf Board has proposed forming a committee of Islamic scholars and preachers to select topics for sermons delivered at mosques and shrines across the Union Territory. The initiative aims to bring greater uniformity to discussions on social issues, including drug abuse and women’s concerns. Reacting to the proposal, Dar alleged that the move could allow the BJP to influence religious discourse in Kashmir. “[The] BJP will draft Friday sermons for mosques across Kashmir. They will decide what issues our preachers will talk about, what colour they will give them and what issues are brushed under the carpet,” Dar said in a social media post. “The content will be theirs, the wording will be theirs and the intent will be theirs,” he added. 🦭 — Parliamentary questions are being asked today at 10 am! The Party for the Animals and D66 are putting questions to the government today in an effort to prevent the closure of the Seal Centre and the WEC. This is an incredibly important moment for the future of seal care! 🤞 We’ve been truly overwhelmed by all the support we’ve received recently. ❤️ So many kind messages, so much involvement, and so many people standing up for our seals and the future of their care. It means an enormous amount to us! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who is helping, sharing ideas and expressing their concern in any way they can. Together, we’re showing just how important this care is. 🙏 Behind the scenes, we as employees are doing everything we can to avoid having to file for bankruptcy. Unfortunately, this means we’re unable to attend the debate in person. But here in Lauwersoog, we’ll be following every moment closely and waiting anxiously to see what happens next… 🦭 #sealcentre #rescue #bankruptcy #animalrescue #debat
