Emotionally immature partners struggle to hear you. This is because they cannot sit in discomfort. Emotionally mature partners listen to find middle ground. They realize everything isn’t an attack, and even when they’re uncomfortable they take deep breaths and let you speak. While all relationships take work and accountability, if you’re chronically drained and the thought of a difficult conversation puts your stomach into knots, you may have an emotionally immature partner. Ask yourself: 1. Can I express how I feel without being on the end of high reactivity or the silent treatment? 2. If I have a different perception of the same experience do they allow me to have it or do they force their own perspective onto me? 3. Do they ask me questions to understand, or make accusations that I end up defending myself against? 4. Do they apologize or self reflect on their role or do they deflect instead? 5. How does my body feel after a tense conversation with them? #selfhealers
