Vans Syndicate Greaserz “S” x @wtaps_tokyo Black/Black

2008 was a really interesting time for Syndicate. Picking up steam from the previous 3 years of bangers, it was time to do some experimenting. The Greazerz, Bash, and Rudeez all came that Summer and it’s probably safe to say we’ve not seen another Vans release summer like that since.

All three paid homage to a different sub-culture or another but the Greaserz are an ode to Japanese punk heritage. Chucks Taylors (or surplus canvas military trainers…noticing a trend?) with a Fuck You attitude and an ollie pad. We got 3 different color ways: black/black, black/white, blue/white. The footbed’s heel says, “We stand together as a group. Each one as an individual. Self discovery comes from within. Express yourself regardless. Just start living. A way of life. MISFITS, REBELS, PUNKS & OUTSIDERS. All Rudies Can’t Fail.” The name “Rudies” refers to Japanese street punks, who took their name from The Clash’s “Rudie Can’t Fail,” which takes its title from Jamaican rude boys who also subverted the status quo. A history of punks doing what they want. That’s Syndicate.
