Undoubtedly my favorite part about this thing called “slow travel,” is meeting new people from all around the world.

This is my boy Marty. He’s Malaysian Chinese and currently lives in Singapore. We met while I was in Kyoto this summer because we were both staying in this capsule hotel. I typically stay in hotels in very limited scenarios, but on this occasion, I was working from this co-working space and it just so happened to double as a capsule hotel on the lower levels.

I was so deep into work that when my Airbnb finished (slide 2) that I didn’t feel like looking for another AirBnb so I stayed in the capsule hotel for the final week. And I’m glad I did. Not only was it a unique once in a lifetime type experience for me, Marty was staying in the capsule right across from me.

His fit immediately told me we would be cool. But I had no clue that he was a multi-hyphenate creative. I told him about Extended Family and what we’re working on this year. It was like that video you might’ve seen where on the first day guys see each other they may not say anything, on the second day its a head nod and then by day three they’re dapping each other up and making plans. It happened almost exactly like that. We’d see in other in passing working late at the workspace and then one day we decided to take a break and hit up one of the tourist spots in Kyoto. He told me he wanted to do a photo walk and get some shots and that’s what we did.

All of the shots here, except Slide 2, are candids taken by Marty. I know it’s hard to believe but he really caught me off guard in every single one. He’s an artistI really was just taking in the sun rays, I promise 😂. That was me taking a moment just to be present and grateful gratefulness. That day we went to the temples surrounding the bamboo forest.

When I make it Singapore, i know I have someone solid to put me on. Appreciate you, Marty.
