While it might seem like Thanksgiving would be less likely to release something like this I actually think it’s perfect.

Today we release the first conversation where I’m on the other side of the mic. Articulating the vision for and sharing the journey to Extended Family.

Around the globe, we’ve gone through the exercise of commandeering once negative sentiments around a myriad of topics and reinventing them.

We’ve done this cross culturally.

And Thanksgiving is no different.

So, as an American, while I too avoided saying “Happy Thanksgiving” because of actual American history, It’s also time to recapture and transmute this day into something new.

Cuz yall damn sure not gonna stop seeing family and fathering on Thanksgiving.

And that’s why today is the perfect day to release this.

How we experience Thanksgiving today is about fellowship. It’s a bout capturing precious time with those you love and in many friends and family circles.

It’s about recapturing the feeling of old times, and getting some extra juice to close out the year and prepare to renew.

The name Extended Family was inspired by this day. The day when you may meet a new cousin from such and such side of the family.

You immediately treat them with a certain deference and respect. You embrace them. You lend them an ear and grace is automatic even though you never knew them an hour ago.

And that’s the standard with which we hope to inspire. That with every new person you meet is treated like that cousin you just met.

Like Extended Family.

Im really excited for you to hear the vision. by @bcamboss

Undoubtedly my favorite part about this thing called “slow travel,” is meeting new people from all around the world.

This is my boy Marty. He’s Malaysian Chinese and currently lives in Singapore. We met while I was in Kyoto this summer because we were both staying in this capsule hotel. I typically stay in hotels in very limited scenarios, but on this occasion, I was working from this co-working space and it just so happened to double as a capsule hotel on the lower levels.

I was so deep into work that when my Airbnb finished (slide 2) that I didn’t feel like looking for another AirBnb so I stayed in the capsule hotel for the final week. And I’m glad I did. Not only was it a unique once in a lifetime type experience for me, Marty was staying in the capsule right across from me.

His fit immediately told me we would be cool. But I had no clue that he was a multi-hyphenate creative. I told him about Extended Family and what we’re working on this year. It was like that video you might’ve seen where on the first day guys see each other they may not say anything, on the second day its a head nod and then by day three they’re dapping each other up and making plans. It happened almost exactly like that. We’d see in other in passing working late at the workspace and then one day we decided to take a break and hit up one of the tourist spots in Kyoto. He told me he wanted to do a photo walk and get some shots and that’s what we did.

All of the shots here, except Slide 2, are candids taken by Marty. I know it’s hard to believe but he really caught me off guard in every single one. He’s an artistI really was just taking in the sun rays, I promise 😂. That was me taking a moment just to be present and grateful gratefulness. That day we went to the temples surrounding the bamboo forest.

When I make it Singapore, i know I have someone solid to put me on. Appreciate you, Marty.

More on the japanese inspired fit in my stories.

Welcome to Japan 🇯🇵

I always knew that right after exploring Africa, Japan would be my first stop. It’s always been the number one place I’ve wanted to experience. Been waiting on this forever.

If you know anyone, let me know.

Arigato gozaimasu 🙏🏾

When I was in Kenya I learned how to ride a motorcycle and ever since then I tried to get a bike in each country.

Senegal was more known for scooters than motorcycles so I got one of those instead.

Because of where my neighborhood was it was difficult to get a cab especially since I couldn’t communicate and tell them how to get there.

So as soon as I got my bike I felt like a whole new world opened up. Whipping around the curve to see the ocean everyday on the way to the gym while listening to Omah Lay, up to Almades and N’gor to Plateau to hit a restaurant. Having a bike was a GAME CHANGER. And that’s still probably understating it.

I might have to make a bike chronicles cuz I got stories from my bike triumphs and mishaps in each country. And I’m definitely getting the M on my license when I get back home. by @bcamboss

This year we launched our first product, The Imagine Experience, in Kenya.

We created a 10-day all-inclusive experience based on my personal journey integrating my travel lifestyle, work life, cultural exploration, and community building over the past 7 years.

While traveling through 3 cities, you’re introduced to the cultural and socioeconomic spectrum of a country through immersive experiences and intimate local community events.

This December, we’re running it back and taking it to South Africa.
