Sam Altman reserved Tesla’s next-generation Roadster in 2018, paying $50,000 before waiting nearly 8 years for the electric sports car.

In October 2025, the OpenAI CEO publicly shared his attempt to cancel the reservation after an email to Tesla’s reservations address bounced back.

Elon Musk responded on X, criticizing Altman and claiming the refund had already been processed within 24 hours.

Now, in October 2026, the same long-awaited Roadster is back in the spotlight with Tesla’s futuristic flying-car ambitions and SpaceX-inspired thruster technology.

Good start

First we discounted public school fees, now we’re removing them all together from 2027.

Every child deserves the best start in life, and cost shouldn’t be a barrier to a quality education.

Because every dollar saved on school costs is a little more breathing room for South Australian families.

10 month update making doubanjiang from scratch

Last winter I started the process of fermenting fava beans to make doubanjiang at home (lots more about doubanjiang on my Substack newsletter, Ugly Pantry). It’s finally peak pepper season, so I am back to finish the process I started. It doesn’t necessarily take a whole year to make this, since the fava beans can be fermented alone for just a month or two. The extra fermentation time allowed the beans to develop more savory characteristics and some meaty brown flavors.

In my research visiting producers in Pixian County (what Champagne is to sparkling wine, but for doubanjiang), I learned that fresh and dried chilis can be used together to control the moisture content and consistency of the final product. Climate and terroir play a huge role in the fermentation process, so I was curious to learn what New York might produce.

I’m planning to let this ferment for another three months before cooking with it.
