U.S. President Donald J. Trump has now said that former U.S. Army Major turned terrorist Nadal Hasan’s execution will not be live streamed, citing “good and well meaning people[‘s]” likely unwillingness to see the execution by firing squad. Per the president, the execution will still take place and the immediate families of the victims of the Fort Hood massacre, will be able to view in person.

Life can look beautiful and still feel under construction. What I have learned in this journey with Bedford is that caution tape doesn’t mean we stop trying.

I think culture has convinced us that anything messy should be avoided. Our GPS reroutes us regularly to avoid it, and we are somehow existing in a world where life has taught us to reroute every time an inconvenience happens.

I spent weeks believing this was impossible. I was convinced it would take a celebrity seeing our story, caring enough, and making it happen. And instead, God sent hundreds of thousands of people to carry this dream with me. LIKE WHAT.

Your life likely has come with caution tape and decisions to reroute. My guess is that primarily happens when it comes to PEOPLE. But what’s crazy beautiful about all of this? It happened because PEOPLE. People I wouldn’t have met or connected with had I hidden myself because it was heavy.

I think community starts growing most when we stop walking away from the dirt God is tilling, just because we don’t see anything budding. Sure, it’s easier to walk away when life gets hard, when relationships feel heavy, when forgiveness and grace are demanded of us. But why live that way? Why love that way? Why dream that way?

A year ago, I was just a girl, standing in front of a plot of land, asking it to be an inclusive playground where my son could exist… and look what God did with it and continues to do with it. Here’s to being “under construction” throughout life, because that means God is fixing to do something crazy with it, if we let Him.
