Two years ago, I probably couldn’t have picked a dahlia out of a lineup, and here I am digging up an entire field of them. 😂

Some might think digging them up is sad, but I think it’s incredible to see the roots that were growing underneath it all. Everyone focuses on the flowers, but have you ever looked at a tuber? Isn’t it wild that flowers can grow out of a little lump that looks like a potato?

My fairy garden mother, @thefloweringfarmhouse, flew in to help me close out my first season as a dahlia micro farmer (yes, I’m claiming the title)!

Swipe through the whole process with us: cutting the still blooming field down, digging every clump up, washing off the dirt, and cutting the tubers apart, which is where we found that what I planted had easily tripled while I was busy admiring the blooms. 💐

My life has forever changed from all the time spent with my hands in the soil. My brain is so full, but my heart is even fuller, and I’m fully and wildly in awe of the way nature and its cycles work.

Jen, thank you for flying in and for making me feel like I know what I’m doing out there. I kind of do now?! 🥰

Send that to your love ❤️

Astoria celebrated a beautiful day of community programming with a street fair on Broadway, Open Streets, a parade on Steinway, and an impromptu parking lot on 33rd Street stretching south from Astoria Boulevard for several avenues.

With so many festivities and nowhere to park, resourceful motorists discovered you can simply park behind someone who is also behind someone who is also behind someone.

Several drivers even stepped out of their vehicles to admire the cars ahead of them, exchange enthusiastic remarks, and personally inquire about everyone’s plans to move forward—just like Christopher Columbus did on the Mayflower or whatever.

Some contributed live music using the instrument conveniently located in the center of their steering wheel.

Honestly, beautiful to see people getting out of their cars and enjoying our streets. This is exactly what the urbanists wanted. 🪿

4 years of Alpha Phi with @marinhouck 💌

“Looking back on these past four years, I truly couldn’t imagine my college experience without Alpha Phi. What started as a place where I hoped to find friendships turned into a home filled with people who have shaped me into who I am today. From the little moments to the memories I’ll never forget, this sisterhood has given me so much more than I ever could have imagined. I’ll forever be grateful for the girls who made these four years so special.”
