He hoped 10 to 20 strangers would show up to his wedding. Thousands came instead ❤️💍

Xu Chenghong, a 24-year-old from rural Yunnan province in China, lost his father at 3. His mother remarried when he was 5, and the grandmother who raised him and his older brother passed away two years later.

He saved around 160,000 yuan, about $22,000, to marry his girlfriend, Luo Chui, but expected barely enough relatives to fill three tables. So on October 25, he posted a video on Douyin inviting strangers to come celebrate with them.

The response was overwhelming. People traveled from across China bringing appliances, heaters, food and even a whole pig, while volunteer chefs cooked for free and one guest lent the couple a Maybach. As crowds swelled, local officials stepped in to help manage the celebration.

On October 31, Xu and Luo said “I do” surrounded by people who had been complete strangers just a week earlier 🎉
