@giacomoturra & the Funky Minutes with @shambalatheband October 25, 2023 at @thepeppermintclub. The sold out crowd was rad and we all had a 💥 Great meeting and hanging briefly with Giacomo, on his first US tour. Looking forward to more “funky minutes” moving forward. Shout out to LA friends in Shambala, who provided a great set of original music! Check out these fun photos!

On Thursday night we met in the @barbicancentre Conservatory to discuss Haruki Murakami’s “Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World”. A mind bending book that fuelled a fantastic discussion, especially after having seen the stage adaption too! Thank you to the Barbican for providing the most incredible setting and making this one of our most memorable book clubs to date.

Last night’s premiere of حب أسود 🖤

So excited for you all to meet Lana! The first 6 episodes are out tonight on @mbcshahid

NANDA DEVI, 1976 — THE STORY CONTINUES

When Devi finally reached Camp IV shortly before midnight, she was exhausted. She had been suffering from severe diarrhea and a hernia. At 7,350 metres, her strength was fading.

Over the following days, she remained in camp while the weather deteriorated. On September 6, her father, Willi Unsoeld, climbed up to join her, Peter Lev and Andy Harvard.

Despite everything, there was still laughter in the tent. They drank tea, talked and remembered earlier climbs. Devi was weak, but nobody expected what was about to happen.

On September 7, a blizzard kept them inside. Devi had a terrible night. By morning, they knew they had to get her down. There would be no summit attempt.

On September 8, at 11:45 a.m., they were preparing to leave when Devi suddenly asked Peter Lev to check her pulse.

Then she said, very calmly:

“I am going to die.”

Moments later, she lost consciousness.

Willi and Andy tried desperately to revive her. They continued for more than half an hour. But Devi was gone.

She was only 22 years old.

At that altitude, on such difficult terrain, it was impossible to bring her body down.

Willi, Andy and Peter knelt together in the snow and said their farewells. Willi and Andy wrapped Devi in her sleeping bag and committed her body to the mountain after which she had been named.Willi gave one last yodel into the mountains. There was no answer.

Then the three men began their descent through the blizzard. It was dangerous. At one point, Peter discovered that the fixed rope he was descending was hanging free, unattached at its lower end, above the precipice.

They finally reached Camp III at 10 p.m.

Days later, back at Base Camp, Willi sent a telegram home to Jolene, Devi’s mother.

It contained the words:

“Body committed to mountain. From beauty into beauty.” Pic John Roskelley

I’ve had my white dial Daytona 126500 🤍 for over two and a half years now, and it’s pure joy every time it’s on my wrist.

I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy the white dial this much. It feels so refreshing compared to the other Rolexes in my collection, which all have black dials. The watch wears beautifully on my wrist and still manages to put a smile on my face every time I look at it.

As the seasons change, I play around with the Easylink extension and the clasp’s micro-adjustment to get the perfect fit. My only wish? That it had a Glidelock system like the OysterFlex models. That would make it even better!
