I have been consumed with anger and grief about what’s happening. I am thinking about this from a place of privilege. I’m constantly in my own cycle of learning and unlearning. What I am certain about is unequivocally rejecting the antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti-immigrant bias occurring.

Do your own learning and unlearning. Call your elected officials to demand a ceasefire. Don’t ignore or be silent because it’s uncomfortable or you don’t know what to do; smaller actions lead to bigger change, for better or worse.

Above all, do not let this be our legacy. History does not have to repeat itself.

The dehumanization of Filipinos during the American colonization and the treatment of Palestinians by Israel exemplify the enduring legacy of colonialism, dehumanization, and propaganda.

These historical parallels are a stark reminder of the impact of such actions on native populations.

They call upon us to recognize the importance of cultural diversity, self-determination, and shared humanity as we work towards a world where such injustices are consigned to history.

I can see the parallels here, and appreciate the perspective. But I do think it glosses over the deliberate, brutal, celebratory murders of 1400 civilians including children and seniors. “Terrorism” may be a problematic word, but what is appropriate? I’m also aware that not all Palestinians support Hamas. But the issues there go far beyond colonialism. For instance, the nation of Israel was founded to give the Jewish people a home after 6 million of them were murdered in the Holocaust.

Sorry this is such a bend over backwards parallel that it’s breaking before it begins

Curious, did the Philippines heads of state use their own people plight to push an agenda of extermination? Isreal will not go through another holocaust. Jews will not allow what happened to happen again. This is not about land it’s about survival. Did Isreal post to the internet the killing and rapping of woman and children? Did they say how proud they were of the slaughter of innocent lives at a party that you and I would of gone to back in the day? There is no excuse for Hamas actions. I feel for the innocent people that will get caught in the crossfire because there leaders say this is the only way. But I will not allow my people to be slaughtered in the streets. I will not allow the past to repeat itself. I am happy to discuss this further. But what happened in Israel is nothing like what happened in the Philippines.
