Since 1999, the Petronas Twin Towers, widely recognised as KLCC, have stood as a defining symbol of Malaysia, embodying the nation’s ambition, progress and growing presence on the global stage.
Their enduring stature lies not simply in their architectural significance but in their ability to remain relevant as each generation finds its own meaning in the landmark.
As Malaysia evolves, the Twin Towers remain synonymous with the nation. Their meaning may shift across generations, yet everyone still looks up to it.
VAUNT, a group of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Mass Communication students, revisits The Star’s 1st September 1999 coverage to explore how two towers became part of Malaysia’s story, and why they continue to command the nation’s gaze.
