A day after Delhi witnessed mass detentions over the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned protest, its founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released on Sunday, October 11, following an order by an Executive Magistrate.

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who was separately detained in Gurugram, was released late Saturday night.

The three CJP leaders were detained on Saturday morning shortly after their flight from Mumbai landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Videos circulating online showed police personnel entering the aircraft to take them into custody as Dipke raised slogans and questioned the action.

Following their preventive detention, the trio was produced before an Executive Magistrate at the Delhi Cantonment Police Station on Sunday morning. The magistrate ordered their release, with advocate Soutik Banerjee confirming that all three were free to leave. Reacting to the development, CJP posted on X, declaring, “Cockroaches never die.”

Rathee, meanwhile, was detained from his Sector 56 residence in Gurugram on Saturday morning and reportedly held for over 12 hours before being released that night. The YouTuber had earlier criticised the security restrictions imposed across Delhi, comparing them to a lockdown.

Despite the releases, the CJP has announced another protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday, October 11. Party leader Ajinkya Shinde called on supporters to gather at 10 AM, reiterating the demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Delhi Police had denied permission for Saturday’s demonstration, citing public safety, traffic management and alleged non-compliance with earlier directions. Police sources reported that more than 7,000 protesters were detained across the capital during the crackdown.

With another protest call issued, security arrangements remain in place across central Delhi. Traffic diversions may affect Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Mandi House and surrounding areas as authorities prepare for a second consecutive day of demonstrations.
