This reel by Caligraphymasters - and the comments after - made me re-think some ideas I had about art.
If words are being used to communitcate, then they should be as clear as possible. But I love to play with letterforms and push them to the edge of legibility. I think that's when typeface and font becomes art and the message itself.
I'll be honest. I don't "get" abstract. Even impressionists sometime make me wonder if the artist just kind of decided to stop in the middle of it, gave up, or wasn't really as talented as he was touted.
But looking at it with my mindset I have when I bend an "s" so much it's almost flat has made me think I should go back and look at some of those works again. 😁
What do you think?
(FYI The second photo is the top of a chair I pinstriped letters onto. The third is a close up of and the fourth is a picture of another seat. Some context for you: Von Dutch is a famous pinstriper known for his disregard of convention and hopefully a bit of a clue if you need it.)
