Joni Mitchell proudly holds up an American flag as she celebrates a milestone more than six decades in the making. The Canadian-born music icon, 82, officially becomes a U.S. citizen, sharing a glimpse inside her naturalization ceremony after spending most of her adult life in America. Mitchell was just 21 when she crossed the border in 1965, later making her mark in New York and California, where her songwriting helped shape an era. Mitchell once described her connection to both countries, saying, "LA is my workplace, BC is my heartbeat." Now, 62 years after that journey began, she marks a new chapter in the country she has long called home.
