Could the United States achieve energy independence with a 100-mile by 100-mile solar field?

According to Elon Musk, it can, but I want to know if you agree with him. Let me know in the comment section ⬇️

Upon researching this statement to support it with facts, I began to question its complexity. Covering an area 100 miles by 100 miles with solar panels could generate a significant amount of power, but feasibility depends on various factors such as energy consumption, efficiency, and storage capabilities. You would need a mile-by-mile area to house all the batteries for that large field 😲.

It’s complex because it involves considerations beyond just physical space, including technological advancements and energy infrastructure. At this point in time, I believe solar advancements need to go a little further to be more efficient before we invested in a solar field that large.

However, for the purpose of OUR homestead, we invested and are installing a small solar field ourselves to help provide us power and rely a little less on the grid.

One goal is to generate the electricity needed to run the wood burner, keeping energy costs lower in the winter for heat but also act as a fail safe. In the event of a power outage we would still have the capability to it running.

Follow along with us @norleyfamilyfarms as we build out our homestead toward self-sufficiency! 🌱☀️

Elon doesn't use solar energy to manufacture his own products (at least not 100%). Wouldn't this message carry more weight if he at least had a small proof of concept? Teslas have to be driven for like 10k miles before the carbon it costs to build the car reaches 0.

even the "best" panels lose 1% output every year, not very efficient and that doesn't include maintenance, cleaning, etc.

No, but I think everyone should be responsible for producing their own power.

Musk is an idiot and incorrect, but besides that point, www could go nuclear and solve every conceivable energy crisis for the next few centuries while also helping the environment immensely
