“We are the water-treatment plant. We are the land we live on,” - Nato Thompson
From the development of agriculture to manufacturing urban landscapes, we have continuously molded our environments to suit our desires. The ongoing fight between our behaviors and nature's will embodies the blurring of boundaries between the synthetic and the real. Our behaviors and environments are a continuous conversation with each other, we build manufactured and commercialized environments to dominate nature. However, without our meticulous maintenance, nature will always expand–breaking away from the constraints we place on the space. The infinite exchange between us and nature molds our land to be an evergrowing conversation and dialogue about our behaviors.
Why do we desire to dominate and control? The demand to manipulate the environment to fit our needs creates an intimate relationship between our behaviors and the natural space. The images materialize into a singular space, always growing and taking shape into something new. The images, as a whole, reflect the active conversation between our interactions and exchange with our surrounding environment.
