Booster Box vs. the chase 📦 vs 🃏 vs 💎 Teamed up with @akiba_hunter to answer the debate everyone has in this hobby: is the sealed box or the chase card the better hold? He built the charts, and I brought the sealed side. Four sets, newest to oldest: Destined Rivals, Obsidian Flames, Evolving Skies, Team Up. Box vs. the raw chase vs. the chase in a PSA 10. What we found 👇 1️⃣ Better hold? All four boxes beat the raw chase. Three of four beat the PSA 10 (Team Up’s lovebirds slab is the one that kept up). And it’s not just these four: across all 22 Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet sets, the box beat its top raw card 18/22 times and its PSA 10 20/22 times. 2️⃣ Leading indicator? Not really. Box and chase move together, but the chase moved about half as much, and neither one reliably moves first. 3️⃣ Does the PSA 10 decide the box price? NO! It’s part of why some boxes cost more, but it doesn’t lead, and in 20 of 22 sets the box pulled away from it. If it was the main reason for the price of a booster box, there would be a very clear correlation in movement - there isn’t. Which one are you holding: box, raw, or slab? 👀 Follow @akiba_hunter for the charts and me for the sealed insights.
