The ICA is proud to present Ivor Novello Award-winners Speakers Corner Quartet (SCQ) in residence this November.
Presented in-the-round and using d&b auditechnik’s 360° soundscape system, SCQ will explore the ways in which technological advancements have integrated into how music is written and performed as they enlist an orchestra of robot instruments as collaborators.
In true SCQ style, the shows will include a range of collaborators, with 3D print designers, and spatial audio engineers John Best and David Sheppard (aka Loss><Gain) joining the legion of robots.
SCQ have been developing musical robots for several years now and this residency will not only reveal their potential as musical tools, but they will be sharing their secrets with a new generation, with an accompanying workshop programme being announced soon.
Robots as tools rather than masters, SCQ wish to destigmatise the digital world by inviting participants to build an open source “Tower of Babel”, whose universal language is Midi. The band will also exploit the ways AI can facilitate a musical dialogue through improvisation and pushing the concept of call and response traditionally seen in jazz and other progressive genres of music.
Prepare for an ever-evolving live experience that will stand as a fitting testament to the long history of avant-garde experimentation hosted at the ICA.
