3 months agoOne difference I noticed in Greece... In places in the US, people smile in passing on the streets. In Greece, no one smiles in passing. In fact, no eye contact. So, no smile in passing, but must greet shop workers when entering a store? In the US, it is the owner is expected to greet first, like you would in welcoming company into your home.
2 years agoIt’s a cultural difference. In the USA a lot of the salespeople don’t want to be bothered unless you’re serious - sort of like, don’t waste my time. Usually, Americans will give a small smile when they enter, but not force an interaction if the salesperson doesn’t make eye contact immediately. OR the salespeople are SUPER aggressive and ruin the relaxed feeling of being able to calmly look around to see if you find anything. I have had to tell my American friends that they MUST say hello when they enter French shops, that they’re not being annoying and not to worry if the salesperson looks busy doing something else.
