In The Ever

IN THE EVER unfolds as a series of memories. Its lyrical pace and bittersweet tone didn’t feel right with a lot of the pieces of music we tried over multiple months editing. One day C.M. remembered an old instrumental piece he had from Sonny Luca, something Sonny had sent him randomly as part of their long history of sending each other things they are working on. During an editing session, C.M. dropped it into a scene as a placeholder and it was immediate magic. It seemed to hold the spirit of the film so naturally. C.M. asked Sonny if he would consider building on that piece of music to compose an original score for the film. Sonny said yes and that score became an inseparable part of the movie, a part of its movement and emotion.

Co-writer/director C.M. also played the lead character of folksinger Sam Ellis in IN THE EVER and wrote all of Sam Ellis’ original songs for the film.
