POSTS STORIES REELS

i never planned on releasing this song.

from the beginning it always felt like a vibe. energy. minimal structure. something to warm up a crowd or jam with other musicians on. it’s been with me 18 years. the song i’ve opened most shows with. there in the good times and the hard. my wife and i have sung it together since the early days. my kids have been hearing it their whole lives and they sing along.

it’s almost a hymn at this point. one of those sacred tunes you keep in the back pocket for the right moment.

i guess this is the moment. here it is. the first studio version, ready for the world. if you need it, go get it.

Thank you @allmylovenovalee for being my first bandmate and champion of this tune back in 2009. My favorite version of this song is just our voices and one guitar. Acoustic release next! Thank you @c.m.sutton for another beautiful album design and dude, I think you were the first person I played this for back in 2008. Fucking wild. Thank you @daveaauthors for taking a chance on me and this song. This tune was waiting for you and your musical brilliance to take it to the world. First of many. Thank you @chriskuffner for adding some seriously wicked energy. Wouldn’t slap the same without you. Thank you @orionredwolf for your calming studio presence and attention to detail. You found some really tasteful and unexpected pockets with that slide guitar. Thank you @michaelaslinger for being down to swing by a random studio in Nashville, at night, last minute to lay down some witch laughter and screams. You just went for it. No fear. So rad. Thank you @mikecrossey for a masterclass mix. Dude, this song needed you. You have a gift and I’m so honored to have you on this song. Thank you @chrisgehringer for another killer master. Always love what you do. Thank you @thegrayhall for offering your creative vision and unique perspective to this project. Our team is lucky to have you. Thank you @littleplanetmusicofficial for your partnership and support in a wildwest industry. So grateful to have you in my corner. Thank you Arny Granat and @bassboots for managing an Italian diva. This project wouldn’t be where it is without you.

Peace and love,

IN THE EVER unfolds as a series of memories. Its lyrical pace and bittersweet tone didn’t feel right with a lot of the pieces of music we tried over multiple months editing. One day C.M. remembered an old instrumental piece he had from Sonny Luca, something Sonny had sent him randomly as part of their long history of sending each other things they are working on. During an editing session, C.M. dropped it into a scene as a placeholder and it was immediate magic. It seemed to hold the spirit of the film so naturally. C.M. asked Sonny if he would consider building on that piece of music to compose an original score for the film. Sonny said yes and that score became an inseparable part of the movie, a part of its movement and emotion.

Co-writer/director C.M. also played the lead character of folksinger Sam Ellis in IN THE EVER and wrote all of Sam Ellis’ original songs for the film. by @sonnylucamusic

playing with capcut for the first time. definitely landing in old man territory and overusing the special features. don’t get too dizzy:)

i wrote this on a train from seattle to chicago in 2008. i was 21, had no idea what i was doing with my life. this song has outlasted almost everything from that time. nearly 18 years later, it’s finally ready to enter the world. pre-save link in bio. “Not Alone.” 10.28.

My favorite person on the planet turns 37 today.

I’ve had the honor of being married to her for nearly 16 years. I’ve watched her build a spectacular career, create stunning pieces of art, and raise three wildly cool kids. I’ve watched her deconstruct and reconstruct multiple versions of herself. I’ve watched her love and lose. What’s always constant is a person who is true to herself and her values, with a deep love for the people around her, an insatiable curiosity, relentless optimism and a deep desire to just play. She’s as good as it gets, and I’m just lucky to be a part. For those who know, you know, and you’re nodding along as you read this.

This original piano piece of hers has made its way through our home for years. A score to our little life. It was a joy to track it this weekend, and I snuck a little video too:)

I love you, @allmylovenovalee

Happy birthday😘
