Can I tell you something about “calm down”? Most of the time, we’re not really saying it to our kid. We’re saying it to ourselves. Our kid’s big feelings set off something big in us, and “calm down” is our body’s way of trying to make it stop.

So before you say anything, check in with yourself. Unclench your jaw, drop your shoulders and take one slow breath. You don’t have to feel calm to act calm. Your kid just needs one person in the room who isn’t adding to the storm, and that can be you, even on a hard day.

If you want to practice this with real-life moments, come spend an hour with @dr_alex_reed and me on October 29 at 1PM ET. We’ll take your questions live, and there’s a replay if you can’t make it. It’s part of our new Parenting Kids with ADHD program.

Comment PROGRAM and I’ll send you the details.

I hope this feels helpful. I’m sharing it as support, not to replace medical or therapeutic advice. Good Inside does not diagnose or treat medical or developmental conditions. If you have concerns about your child, I always encourage you to connect with a qualified professional.

Just flew to New Zealand to bring them the Blue Steel. #ZoolanderZealand #AKarakia

Ladies while you’re running around for everyone else, please don’t forget to pour into yourself and do things that make you smile on the inside and out 🫶🏽✨
