HU Staff: Ariela Anís @ari.anis ⚠️ SENSITIVE / PRAYERS: An Air Force Airman has been confirmed dead after plummeting 170 feet from the Alamodome’s rafters. The military officer was part of the rappel team from Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron, headquartered at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. ___________________________________________________ On Saturday (October 17), the airman was repelling from the rafters during a fast-rope demonstration. It was before the UTSA Vs. Navy Game. However, during the demonstration, the airman was repelling down and about halfway through, he lost control. He slid down the line and crashed to the ground. Immediately, medical personnel tended to his aide. They then transferred him off the field and to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. ___________________________________________________ A Nellis spokesperson confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY that the incident is under investigation. Additionally, UTSA issued a statement following the incident, as did the American Conference. It read, “We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight’s football game. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues. We recognize that members of our campus community may be emotionally affected by this incident and are activating wellbeing services to support our faculty, staff and students.” After the game, UTSA football coach Jeff Traylor also spoke out. ___________________________________________________ Click the link in bio for full story 📸 ABC 6 / X: qu4k3r0ats

🇺🇸 William Marshall “Bill” Beckmann died on, April 29 1990, at St. John’s Hospice in Lakewood, Colorado, following an extended illness with AIDS. He was 29 years old. Bill was born in Denver on 14 July 1960. He graduated from Platte Canyon High School in 1978, where he was active in school and community activities, particularly local melodrama theatre. An artist, Bill designed the original “Bailey Day” logo located at the Entriken Cabin in Bailey, and painted the Husky logo in the old Platte Canyon High School gymnasium. Bill attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and graduated from the University of Denver in 1982. Before his illness, he worked in Human Resources at the Life Insurance Company of Denver. Doug Lasky told @theaidsmemorial, “I met Bill when we both sang with the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. We lived two blocks away from each other. He was incredibly kind and handsome. He was always looking for love (as we all were at that age). His specialty was cooking Chicken Veronique in his tiny apartment for a first date. One night his date didn’t show up so he called me and I got to experience the special meal (without the romantic dessert). I remember him in hospice. All that youthful joy and beauty wasting away. I spoke at his memorial service. I’m now 70 years old and I think of him often and how he touched my life.” #whatisrememberedlives
