Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who passed away at 75 after a cardiac arrest, was known not only for his powerful performances but also for a life deeply connected to service. In 1999, during the Kargil War, Patekar took a break from films and, after receiving special permission, served alongside the Indian Army near the frontline. Reports say he spent more than two weeks in the conflict zone and lost around 20 kg during his time there.

His commitment to helping farmers became another defining part of his life. In 2015, Patekar and actor Makarand Anaspure founded NAAM Foundation in response to the drought crisis and farmer suicides in Maharashtra. The foundation provided financial assistance to affected families and later expanded its work into water conservation, agriculture, employment and village development.

The foundation also adopted four drought-hit villages — Dhondalgaon, Gogalgaon, Kutubkheda and Kaudar — with the aim of making them more self-sufficient and addressing issues such as water scarcity, education and employment. Reports have also highlighted Patekar’s simple lifestyle and his substantial personal contributions to charitable causes, including his support for farmers and drought relief.
