I briefly played w/ Sir Patrick Stewart on a sitcom called “Blunt Talk”. I wasn’t even a big Trek guy, but I knew of his global renown, his commitment to the craft, and his genre-agnostic approach that spanned Shakespearian theater, David Lynch, Mel Brooks, the Old Testament, Stan Lee, Charles Dickens; from the brilliant comic mind of Seth MacFarlane to the darkened door of Jeremy Saulnier. I improvised something when we shot and kinda “went for it”. Symptoms of the disease of thirst. “Only a few lines of dialogue but GOD do I want to shine!” My improv and boldness made Stewart break character and after one take in particular, Michael Lehmann yelled “Cut!” and Sir Patrick started a round of applause and stared at me, mid clap, with a smirk and a knowing look of some kind. Later that day, we were standing at craft service and he told me some anecdotes about he and Sir Ian McKellan, and when I told him I was an aspiring writer/director, he said “Well, I hope you’ll consider me when you’re ready. I’m with ICM and Circle of Confusion-“ The generosity and humility, from my vantage point, was off the charts. He’ll be missed for a great many performances, but I’ll miss him for his performance as “self”. It made a budding, and deeply thirsty, actor feel welcome and celebrated.
In 2025 someone who was under the influence rear ended me and totaled my car when i was on my way to train at UFC, my friend & coach @noah_fleder came and called the ambulance. I was hospitalized because i couldn’t sit up or stand on my own 😬 So I’m happy to be able to walk and train again with continuous physical therapy 😬 NEVER TAKE A SINGLE DAY FOR GRANTED GUYSSSS. I’m on my anime comeback arc
I heard of Patrick’s passing earlier today, which is funny in a kismet kind of way, considering I was drafting an email to send him late last night, something I hadn’t done in quite some time. He was such a kind, genuine, funny, unique, caring and charming man. I remember his endless jokes, nurturing nature and colourful reading glasses. Every single day spent working by his side was an honour and a privilege I can’t quite believe I had. He was a walking master of his craft, and of life. One of the greatest of our time, on stage and on screen. I have always looked up to him, and always will. As an actor and as a man. He had a wonderful way of wrapping every ancient lesson he imparted in wonder, fun and excitement. I will always remember his warmth and the respect he showed to everyone around him. I will forever hold those months we spent together close to my heart, and will always think of him as a pivotal part of how I view the world around me. So rest in peace, you giant, you legend amongst men. The beautiful work, humanity and kindness you leave behind will live on forever. 🤍
A game show. A naive pig. One question: what is money… really? He called the wolf. The answer was so honest they cut the feed. Money isn’t a reward. It’s a leash — and the best leash is the one you hold yourself.
