Jalena and Jaylen Jeanbatiste, identical twins and seniors at LSU majoring in Biological Sciences, have shared not just a sibling bond but also an academic path on their pre-med journey. Growing up in Lafayette, Louisiana, both were inspired by a passion for medicine, nurtured during their high school biology classes and motivated by personal family experiences with cancer. This shared goal has shaped their time at LSU and strengthened their connection. "Having someone by your side the whole way is such a blessing. It’s taught us to work together, communicate, and understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses," the twins shared.
Jalena, a baritone player in the Tiger Band, finds the hands-on aspect of biology the most exciting. Whether it’s conducting lab experiments or learning new concepts, she loves how biology connects to the real world. Her passion for helping others drives her to pursue medicine. Beyond science, Jalena is a runner and enjoys being outdoors with her dog, Molly.
Jaylen, the older twin by just a minute, plays the piccolo in the Tiger Band. She’s fascinated by biology’s complexity and loves the thrill of discovering new species and solving mysteries in the natural world. Outside of science, Jaylen has a passion for travel, and exploring new places is something she truly enjoys.
Both Jalena and Jaylen have received the Innovation Scholarship from LSU, which, according to them, has played a crucial role in their academic success. Together, Jalena and Jaylen’s journey through LSU has been filled with mutual support, music, and a passion for science. From performing together in Tiger Band to navigating challenging courses, the twins have thrived by leaning on each other.
