Stitches against violence - a worldwide public knitting and crocheting protest against gender based violence

An initiative of stitch sip knit x @footprint_vienna x @stop.wien

We will join our forces again on the 18th of November at 5:45pm (CET) and spend around 20 min knitting/crocheting on public transport to publicly condemn gender based violence ✊🏻

This protest is worldwide so where ever you are join us on the 18th of November at 5:45 pm(CET), get on your public transport and craft away for 20 min. We will be wearing something red as a sign of solidarity and to recognise each other. This can be a hat, a scarf or a red scrap yarn. We invite everyone who isn’t in Vienna to join us in solidarity. Take your friends, your colleagues, your family with you and join us for these 20 min.

In Vienna we will protest on Tram line 1 and we will ride until Burgring. We will then continue to do a fibre arts walk towards St Ulrich Platz were we will join all together at the memorial of femicides. During the protest we will once again work on 10x10cm squares that we will turn into blankets that have anti violence statements and help hotlines embroidered on them. You can of course also donate squares that have already been made. All projects from the Protest will be displayed @buechereien.wien during the 16 days against gendered violence

Meeting point one: Prater Hauptallee station were we will take the tram line 1

You are welcome to bring posters, banners or something you would wish to leave at the memorial

If you can spare 20 min of your time join us for this solidarity protest

Wir verwandeln Handarbeit in Widerstand 👊

Shame on every “GLATT KOSHER” reasturant hosting Halloween parties in our community tonight!

GLATT KOSHER RESTAURANTS SHOULD NOT BE HOSTING HALLOWEEN PARTIES!

It is deeply disappointing to see Glatt Kosher restaurants, establishments that proudly serve the Jewish community and uphold the standards of Kashrut, promoting and hosting Halloween celebrations.

Being Glatt Kosher should mean more than just the food you serve. It should also reflect the Jewish values you represent.

Halloween is not a Jewish holiday, and there is no reason for Jewish establishments to encourage or normalize its celebration within our community.

Kosher food does not automatically make every event appropriate for a Jewish establishment.

Endurance and strength are somewhat mutually exclusive adaptations for the body, so trying to stimulate both at the same time results in a bit-of-both compromise rather than maximal gains in both. That's the essence of the interference effect (also called concurrent training effect).

Interference led many lifters to avoid cardio like the plague. 'Walking to the gym will kill your gains!' Then the social media paradigm shifted in the direction of 'debunked' after newer studies failed to replicate the interference.

Fashion-like paradigm changes are common on social media. They're why lay individuals think science constantly contradicts itself and that you can find a study showing anything. Wrong. The totality of evidence has been quite consistent. Only the social media interpretation has swung around it like a pendulum, much like stock market prices swing around financial information.

Crucially, the 'debunking' studies were done mostly on untrained individuals. Untrained individuals can grow from anything, so adding more volume to their program, even if it's bicycling, can actually improve their gains.

Trained individuals have far more specialized molecular adaptations, so a new study looked at individuals, squatting at least 1.5x bodyweight combined with running experience and a VO2max over 50. They did either:
- Lifting weights 3x per week
- 30 Mins treadmill running 3x per week
- Both, with the running 20 minutes after the strength work

After 11 weeks, the pure-weights group experienced the largest increases in all measures of strength, size and power. "A clear interference effect" the researchers concluded.

The effect sizes were considerable (probably inflated though) and the trend was consistent across measures, even pennation angle (an indirect measure of muscle growth), and already present at the 5-week mark. However, with only 30 trained individuals, none of the direct comparisons reached statistical significance. The researchers noted many comparisons were significant in the weights but not the combined group, but that's weaker evidence.

@laurenvictoriaspi ran the @nycmarathon topless, with her scars visible.

After breast cancer treatment at 32, she chose to run in the hope that her story would help other women speak up, ask questions, and trust their instincts when something doesn’t feel right.
