🌸🌿 Léo Delibes – Flower Duet, Lakmé
Belle Voci – vocals 🎤

British Airways uses this duet to this day as its passengers board. In one of the airline's commercials, it became Aria, an adaptation credited to Yanni and Malcolm McLaren, and Classic FM credits a TV commercial by the airline with bringing the opera back to popularity. The cinema, however, got there first: in the film The Hunger, by Tony Scott, the duet accompanies a love scene between Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon. It also appears in Meet the Parents, True Romance and The Simpsons.

Listen again and pay attention to the moment the camera moves behind the two of them: right after a brief pause in the phrase, a firm sound with no tremor is sustained beneath the singing, straight, and it only fades away after the next cut.

Belle Voci is the duo of Emily and Sophie, from Chester, in England. They met while working at a pub, Emily as a cook and Sophie as a waitress, and, according to Classic FM, Sophie heard Emily singing in the kitchen. Together, the two of them phoned about 60 companies a week looking for gigs. According to Crossover magazine, it was Emily who signed them up for the show, after seeing an email from ITV looking for singers. In 2018, they sang the Flower Duet at the blind auditions of The Voice UK, and Jennifer Hudson turned her chair a few seconds before the end. On Jennifer Hudson's team, the duo won the battle with Smells Like Teen Spirit, by Nirvana, and reached the live final, where they sang O Fortuna and My Heart Will Go On. After the show, they recorded a Christmas album of their own and sang at Wembley.

On me way

SNAP JUDGMENTS What’s in, what’s out, and what’s up for debate. There’s never a shortage of opinions in my studio, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re constantly questioning conventions, challenging each other, and rethinking the rules. So we decided to have a little fun with our hot takes on design, taste, and the things we love (and love to disagree on). A few surprises, some strong opinions, and plenty of instinct.
