She was willing to marry a man 10 or 15 years older. Divorced was fine too. What she wouldn’t compromise on was one thing: old money.

Not a man who had built ₹2 crore a year himself. His family had to have been wealthy for generations. The right surname, the right school, the right family circle.

But there was a problem with that filter: she was self-made too.

The very families she wanted to marry into might look at her and see exactly what she was rejecting — new money, first-generation success, no inherited family name.

This is what happens when a preference becomes a filter. You don’t just eliminate the men you don’t want. You can accidentally eliminate the men who would actually want you.

Her pool was already tiny. She made it smaller, then started waiting for someone from that tiny pool to choose her back.

Standards are important. But if your standards are based on belonging to a world that may not see you as one of them, it’s worth asking: are you protecting your standards, or postponing your own happiness?
