Shahrukh Khan ko Aisi kya Majburi rahi hongi
At the invitation of Helen Haines’ husband, Phil, the Governor-General offered her best wishes for Helen’s recovery and reflected on what this moment means for the nation.
Assigned reading: Rosalind Gill, "Postfeminist Media Culture: Elements of a Sensibility," European Journal of Cultural Studies 10, no. 2 (2007). video from youtube shorts by user: fun_shortg Rashmika and Vijay's marriage belongs to them, and how they came to it is their own business, so this video has nothing to say about them personally. What I am looking at is the conversation that followed the Koffee With Karan promo, where a woman saying she asked her partner to marry her for a year turned, depending on whose comments you read, into a lesson on self-respect or a sign that Indian women have finally taken the lead. Both readings resolve gender equality at the level of who asked first and who picked up the dinner bill. This conversation makes perfect sense on a couch in Mumbai, about a palace wedding in Udaipur whose streaming rights were reportedly up for sale. When public figures tell such stories, and when we pass them around, we learn what this class of people imagines a relationship to be: a series of confident choices between two people whose safety and income are already taken care of. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita still keeps the marital rape exception under Section 63 while the Supreme Court hears the challenge. Most women still plan a first date around how they will get home, and most still earn less than the man sitting across the table. Who proposed, who splits the bill, changes very little about any of this. So go ahead, ask him a hundred times, split the bill and buy him the ring. Allwoodinclusive feminism will be very proud of you, and the law will stay exactly where it is. #RashmikaMandanna #VijayDeverakonda #KoffeeWithKaran #IndianFeminism
