Rapper Cordae’s upcoming album with Anderson .Paak could be in serious trouble after his former record label filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit over an eight-year-old contract. On October 15, MMMG Inc. sued Cordae, EMPIRE, APESH*T, and Mass Appeal in New York federal court, claiming the rapper violated an exclusive recording agreement signed in April 2018. According to the lawsuit, MMMG still controls the rights to Cordae’s recordings, including his upcoming collaborative album, “Heavy Is The Crown,” scheduled for October 23. “Defendants never requested nor received a license from MMMG to release this album,” attorney Jeffrey M. Movit wrote. The company also accuses Cordae of withholding money earned through merchandise sales, touring, and other business ventures. MMMG claims its agreement remained active even after Atlantic Records ended its distribution arrangement in September 2025. However, Cordae’s attorneys reportedly dispute whether MMMG’s replacement agreement with Stem satisfied the original contract. The financial demands are substantial. MMMG wants at least $15 million from Cordae for breach of contract, another $5 million from the other labels, and at least $5 million over his September single, “A Good Day.” The company is also asking a judge to prevent further unauthorized releases, potentially interfering with Cordae and Anderson .Paak’s album rollout. The two previously collaborated on “RNP” in 2019. Anderson .Paak is not personally named as a defendant. No ruling blocking the album has been reported, and the allegations remain unproven.
