✨💔Today is the last day of the incredible Alma, Corazón y Vida exhibitions on campus, and we want to take this moment to acknowledge the inspiring work of the art collector Surito Echeverría. 💕
We’re deeply grateful to Surito for sharing his remarkable collection of Chicano art with our community and UC Merced students. He allowed us to curate four exhibitions from his collection! His passion for art and connections with the artists he loves truly brought this collection to life.
Alma, Corazón y Vida was inspired by Surito’s heartfelt relationships with both the art and the artists. The title reflects the soul, heart, and life that radiates through his collection—a testament to his love for art and his belief in its power.
In the first video sample, Surito shares what motivated him to collect Chicano art. In the second, he speaks in Spanish about living with this stunning collection. Together, these stories give a glimpse into the passion behind his impressive collection.
Thank you, Surito, for your generosity and for working with our students. This exhibition from your extraordinary collection has inspired many to fall in love with Chicano art and deepened their appreciation for its beauty and significance.🫶💕🙌
