My contribution to the 62nd edition of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year is this juvenile turtle, nominated for the People’s Choice Award. It was my favourite image captured in 2025 which makes this selection extra rewarding (mostly because it offers a shred of evidence that I’m not totally mad). Beyond the award, this picture shares one of the most rarely seen moments in the ocean and in the life of sea turtles. The odds are stacked against sea turtles from the moment they hatch; only one out of every thousand destined to make it to adulthood. For those individuals who complete the treacherous escape from the beach into the sea, there lies ahead an arduous and mysterious life in the open ocean. We know so little about this period in a turtle’s life that they are referred to as the ‘lost years’. It is hard enough to find a whale while exploring the pelagic ocean, so imagine my surprise when we came across a tiny turtle in the ‘blue desert’. It is the equivalent of finding the metaphorical needle in a haystack. A moment of exceptional rarity, and a privileged insight to the life of a species vulnerable to extinction. Big thanks to eagle-eyed friend and guide Ivan (@isotelo__) for spotting the turtle, part of another epic day on the water with @nomad_diving. Thank you to the friends and clients who were with me that day and shared in the wonder of the moment. Thank you the @nhm_wpy for continuing to make the ‘Oscar’s’ of the wildlife world possible. Heaps of appreciation for @jadehoksbergen as always, and my longterm partners @blancpain1735, @fourthelementdive, @xdeep_dive_gear, @nautilusuk.
Some of the greatest companies moving the world forward are on sale “again”. Now, the reason is t just inflation & bond yields, one of the biggest reasons is because a lot of the companies (mag 7) are taking on lots of debt to grow these data centers & that debt is now causing financial issues that are trickling down. And when you add high inflation, high bond yields, a war, and consumer debt, now it becomes a big problem. But the companies themselves are printing money hand over fist, and while that can slow down, these are some of the most profitable companies in the world. Being down 20% or double digits, becomes a great opportunity to get starter positions, or bring your cost basis down if you bought too high. Instead of being fearful, these are some of the best opportunities to build wealth, and increase your net-worth. The markets are going to crash! And after every crash, the markets rally back…. Don’t chase the rally, the smart people buy during the fear. If you’re looking for clarity, and instructions and a system, on how to navigate the markets with confidence, come join the Family. So it turns out the World Bank - a financial institution that claims to be striving for a ‘livable’ planet - has continued to back fossil fuel interests like coal mines in Asia, gas fields in Africa and petrochemical plants in Asia AND Africa. Well the banker wankers are gathering together in Bangkok this month to decide how they’re going to spend OUR TAXPAYER’S money in the next financial year. Might be a good idea to not spend it on things that are causing the entire climate to collapse in on our heads? Just an idea (ad). Tag em if you agree. #climate #environment #fossilfuels #worldbank #climateemergency
