I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been posting photo sets like I normally do. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even had time to feel depressed—which is concerning. Thankfully, anxiety has stepped up to fill the gap.
Most jokes aside, I make sure to take a few photos throughout my days. Photography is a practice I want to hold onto, regardless of whether there’s an audience or not. Let’s be honest, though: the viewer is just as important. Anyone who says they only do it for themselves is either lying or not very good yet.
I can’t wait to be 89 and look back at all my thirst traps—I mean portraits✨—and confirm what I already feel: life is cyclical. There’s nothing truly new, aside from tech and medical advances like MySpace and Ozempic. Life wasn’t better in the past, and while life can feel temporarily better in the future, it’s all part of the same flow.
I love photography because it captures thinly sliced slivers of my existence, reminding me of the emotions or thoughts I may have been feeling in that moment. Yet it took me a week to memorize my own phone number. The only constant in photography is the use of light; everything else—the tools, the methods—keeps changing.
