Seeing these moments from Queen’s A Day at the Races tour with this kind of clarity nearly fifty years later is such a gift. ✧ A little note about this edit: it isn’t a full song or continuous performance. The original film captures different fragments from the concert, so this one-minute reel moves quickly too, almost like a little visual medley of the night. And there are so many beautiful details. Freddie in the black leotard, reaching one hand behind him as someone offstage places the tambourine straight into it. Those signature movements from this period…throwing his head back, arching his body, turning every second into theatre. Freddie and John together during β€œLiar.” And then the kimono. Freddie slowly working at the ties, teasing the reveal, throwing it open with all the drama in the world before β€œBig Spender” and β€œJailhouse Rock.” That’s really what this edit is about for me, not following one full performance, but getting to see these little flashes from that night so clearly now.
