Our calm in the storm 💪 Naz kept the fire burning last night with 12 PTS, 5 AST, and led the Dream on the boards with 8 REB
My daughter Lilly is 16, has a rare genetic disorder, needs 24/7 care, and has one of my kidneys. My son Luca is autistic and can tell you more about ceiling fans than you ever knew there was to know. And Lucky is the youngest and has absolutely no shortage of opinions. I love the shit out of all three of them. And I’m also a whole person who likes clothes, color, being in love and occasionally finishing a thought. Before this chapter, I owned a clothing store called La Mère. It means “the mother” in French, and I keep thinking about how much that name still fits. Because “mom” holds so much. The practical stuff. The terrifying stuff. Knowing someone’s medications by heart. Learning how three completely different kids need to be loved. And mothering reaches beyond having children, too. It’s how we care for people. Make room for them. And sometimes it’s learning to give ourselves the tenderness we’re so quick to hand everybody else. (That last part took me a while🫣) There’s been a brutal divorce, a closed business, a repossessed car, months in hospitals, and about 16 years of waking up at 3am. It took me far too long to realize I have plenty of actual responsibilities without adding “live a life that makes sense to everybody else” to the list. So here we talk about motherhood, disability, getting older, starting over, and all the things we’ve been told we’re supposed to do that are actually… completely optional. I’m writing a book. I’m making a life I like. I’m resting when I can and still occasionally feeling guilty about it. 🩷
