Based Upon

From the stillness, life stirs. The first rain cleanses, the air thickens with renewal. “Instead of making marks in the surface, we worked with the natural swelling and cracking that occurs when slip dries and becomes solid clay” (Ian Abell). In surrendering to nature’s rhythm, beauty is born.

Seasons of Tranquility (2012) is a large-scale bronze artwork installed in a private residence in Amagansett, Long Island. Spanning both interior and exterior spaces, the piece was created by Based Upon to embody the shifting forces of nature, capturing the marks of the landscape through an experimental process using clay, dry ice, fire, and rain. Designed to evolve over time, its surface patina is shaped by the coastal elements, mirroring the ever-changing seasons and the passage of time.
