Just getting back from Harvard and I met with their political and business classes yesterday. One question those students asked me was how I handle attacks online.

I said easy and it applies to both jobs. Whenever someone comes for me I drop receipts 😭. Sharon for the win! I love our staff! 😊

Question: they say my delivery is too much. Please tell me if I need to tone it down. Oh, and its election season. Vote responsibly.

A magical night celebrating #LHeureBleue with @guerlain 🐝💙

I want to tell you about one of the most quietly liberating things I have ever done...
Stopping explaining myself.

Not rudely. Not without care for the people around me. Just releasing the compulsive need to justify every choice, every boundary, every decision that did not fit what someone else expected of me 🥺

Because I used to over explain everything.

Every no came with a paragraph of reasons why. Every boundary came with an apology attached. Every choice that deviated from what was expected came with a detailed explanation designed to make it acceptable to whoever was watching.

And it was exhausting.
But more than exhausting it was a signal.

It was a signal that I did not fully trust my own judgment. That I needed the people around me to agree with my decisions before I could feel okay about making them. That my choices were not quite legitimate until they had been approved by someone outside of myself.

Stopping explaining myself did not happen overnight.

It was a gradual and sometimes uncomfortable practice of sitting in the discomfort of someone not understanding a choice I had made and resisting the urge to immediately fill that discomfort with justification.

And what I found on the other side of it was something I did not expect.
Peace 🥺

The quiet, solid, unshakeable peace of knowing that my choices belong to me. That I do not owe everyone an explanation. That the right people will understand and the ones who do not were not going to be satisfied by any explanation I gave anyway.

You do not owe anyone a paragraph for every decision you make.

No is a complete sentence.

And your life is yours to live without a running commentary 🤍
