For generations, my family has farmed land in Indiana Now… Jasper County officials are trying to quietly approve data center developments (ignoring the massive opposition by residents) despite already being burdened by NIPSCO’s R.M. Schahfer Generating Station (which is monitored due to multiple EPA violations). The environmental strain extends beyond the soil to livestock. Air pollution, light pollution, noise pollution, and water pollution all have negative impacts on both livestock and wildlife. •disrupted circadian rhythm •severe physiological stress •dangerous spikes in somatic cell counts •reduced egg production •altered metabolic function •disrupted breeding cycles •reduced lactation •interference with bees ability to communicate •degraded meat quality (elevated cortisol + adrenaline) •stillborn calves within a certain radius It should also be noted that the data center plans to discharge into the Kankakee River and Jasper County has already initiated plans for a second data center. This issue now reaches beyond Jasper County’s border and must be addressed. Accountability starts with the Jasper County Commissioners: Rein Bontreger Ryan Hilton Craig Standish Indiana Representative: Kendell Culp Elected officials have been fully warned about the risks; continuing down this path is no longer ignorance… it is willful negligence. The public deserves a transparent breakdown of this project’s revenue, including the sudden surge in local traffic fines. Kankakee Valley Fire Department is not equipped to deal with industrial fires and residents face the threat of their shallow wells running dry with no plan in place. Statewide, data center corporations have already used exemptions to bypass more than $655 million in taxes. Perhaps the governor, Mike Braun, would like to comment? Is corporate greed worth the sacrifice of a community? If you are dealing with this in your community, submitting a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request can help provide clarity when your public appointed officials lie and hide behind NDAs (non disclosure agreements). #northwestindiana #nofarmsnofood
