Growing up in Dayton, Ohio, I used to ride my bicycle past the Dayton Art Institute, but I never went inside. Those imposing steps made me believe there was nothing in there for me.

On Monday night, at the @studiomuseum Gala, I thought about those steps again. We celebrated with nearly 700 guests, including seven of the country’s leading museum directors and more than thirty of its most renowned artists.

Since 1968, the Studio Museum has challenged an art world that too often left Black artists outside its doors and excluded from the canon. Nearly six decades later, it has helped transform that world while remaining firmly grounded in Harlem. Its extraordinary new home on 125th Street is a testament not only to artistic excellence but also to perseverance, community, and the power of unwavering belief.

I was deeply moved to be honored for my 23 years of service as Chairman of the Board. The moment was shaped by ME/WE, the neon masterpiece that greets us all as we enter. This honor belongs to the generations of visionaries and supporters who built and sustained this institution. Above all, this journey would never have reached this milestone without my dear friend, the inimitable @thelmagolden, whose brilliance, determination, and commitment to the highest, most unassailable standards of excellence have led us through our most ambitious chapter yet.

As our deeply committed Board carries this legacy forward under Kathryn Chenault’s leadership as Chair, I could not be more confident in the Museum’s future.

Those doors on 125th Street are open. They belong to everyone whose journey includes experiencing the very best of artistic genius. I hope to see all of you there, and that you’ll bring young people with you to climb those steps and discover the power of culture as expressed by extraordinary Black artists in the Museum’s awe-inspiring new architectural landmark.

Is posting a faster marathon time on Strava rather than your official race result considered cheating?

An online watchdog group is exposing runners over discrepancies in their times, but some athletes say they've faced harassment and abuse after being publicly called out.

“I received so many threatening messages and comments belittling my achievement,” one runner said. “I could almost understand the shaming if it’s on professionals; however, when it’s normal people who are running for their own personal reasons or enjoyment, I think it’s disgusting.”

If Jay Z needs a good laugh, he may want to take a good look at this clip... Just days after Hov made it official that he’s stepping onto the biggest stage in American entertainment, his old Roc-A-Fella running mate Dame Dash popped up on “The Art Of Dialogue” to say, in so many words, that he’s not buying a ticket to the party...

As we previously reported, the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced Monday night that Jay-Z will be the featured performer at halftime on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Roc Nation has partnered with the league since 2019 to advise on and help produce its entertainment presentations. Now the producer is the headliner, and the internet did what the internet does. Everybody started drafting dream setlists and guessing who walks out beside him.

Asked about Jay picking himself and the stars who might pop up on that stage, Dame said with a straight face, “We all know he’s gonna bring out Beyonce. Like, I’m not going… don’t even call me for the Super Bowl. I’m not going. I don’t have any desire for that.”
