Hello and welcome to our dogfluencer insta where we show off some of the good boys and girls that we meet at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, TX. We started volunteering at BARC in March 2024 because we thought it would be nice to walk some dogs, and then we realized there was a much greater need for meeting dogs and posting pictures and bios to try to save them from the euthanasia list.

Houston has a huge stray dog crisis, with many dogs not being spayed and neutered and reproducing at alarming rates. So many of these dogs are living outside and wandering the streets. On top of that, there are negligent dog owners who are dumping their dogs or owners who are in tough financial situations and are unable to properly care for their pets. As a municipal shelter, BARC has to accept all pet surrenders and so they are constantly overcrowded and trying to get these dogs out to adopters and rescues. Euthanasia lists are super unfortunate, but there aren't other options with how many dogs there are living in terrible conditions and how little government funding the shelter receives.

These dogs need our help! SHARE, FOSTER, PLEDGE, ADOPT!! Sharing their posts can do so much to get the word out about this crisis! If you are ever interested in fostering, we'd be happy to answer any questions. Rescues cannot pull dogs without local Houston fosters - the time commitment for fostering can vary based on which rescue tags, but it is 100% worth every moment of it to save these dog's lives. Pledges also help a ton to support these rescues with medical costs when they pull these dogs. Every dog will require a vet appt, HW & flea prevention, transport costs to eventually get them out of Texas, potentially spays/neuters, and various other medical emergency costs that can come up since a lot of these dogs haven't been taken well care of previously. And all these dogs need to find good homes, so if you have the capacity to adopt please consider a shelter dog! They are so deserving of living the rest of their lives cuddled up on a comfy couch with their humans 💕
