On Thursday, three children and an adult were killed in a shooting at an Oregon elementary school. The suspected gunman, a 16-year-old male, was fatally shot, possibly by a bystander, according to police.
_______________________________
At approximately 12:59 p.m., dispatchers received a phone call from a person who said they had been shot at several times while in their vehicle by a suspect with a long gun.
After receiving the alert, police arrived at approximately 1:02 p.m. following calls that the suspect had entered the school. Bend Police Chief #MikeKrantz said the suspect forced his way into the school by “shooting at locked doors.” When officers arrived at the school, they discovered that a bystander had killed the suspect.

Along with the teacher, the three children killed were ages 5, 8, and 11, Mike Krantz said at a news conference. Two others, a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher, were taken to St. Charles Medical Center with critical injuries.
Students of Silver Rail Elementary School in the Bend-La Pine school district were transported to a local church after the shooting, and it was announced that the district would cancel classes and athletic events on Friday. (📸:@gettyimages) ✍🏽: #TSRStaffJR #TSRStaffKH

Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action Pythagore Dumas has announced plans to build two modern stadiums meeting FIFA standards one in the Grand Nord and one in the Grand Sud so Haiti’s national teams can finally host home matches on Haitian soil. The projects are included in the 2026-2027 budget, alongside funding for the rehabilitation of several existing sports parks.

Speaking at a Primature press conference in mid-October 2026, Dumas outlined the dual approach: major new facilities plus upgrades to existing ones. In the South, the planned stadium targets the Parc Larco (also referred to in reports as Parc Land des Gabions) site in Les Cayes. A long-standing land dispute with the Léger family has reportedly been resolved through an agreement in which the family will cede the land to the state, with involvement from Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. Dumas and Director General Wilfince Mombrun conducted inspection visits there in early October; the ministry is advancing a feasibility study, and the vision is for modern construction rather than simple renovation. Les Cayes offers practical advantages, including proximity to Antoine-Simon International Airport.

In the North, the government is advancing a parallel major stadium project. Dumas has referenced available land near Cap-Haïtien and the importance of sites near airports to meet FIFA requirements for access, hotels, and infrastructure. Details on the exact northern site remain less fully documented in public reporting than the Les Cayes plan.

In parallel, the ministry has budget envelopes for rehabilitating several parks that host national championship matches:

- Parc Saint-Victor in Cap-Haïtien
- Parc Levelt n Saint-Marc
- Parc Vincent (Sténio Vincent) in Gonaïves, with a targeted inauguration of January 1, 2027, and earlier reporting of roughly 105 million gourdes allocated
- Parc Serge Bernadel(Miragoâne / Nippes–Grand’Anse area)
- Parc Saint-Joseph

These upgrades aim to improve conditions for clubs and national championship play while the larger stadium projects advance from study to construction phases.
