Why have you put a pair of boobs on your stories?, a lady asked me last night. Why not? I replied. What I was doing was building up to this post. Back in September it was my birthday and I asked for only one thing. For women and men to go get their bits checked. As with all I post on here that’s emotional, I hope to reach one person of any sex that finds solace, comfort or direction in my words. Thankfully I found the one who thought I’ll listen to him today. Went to get checked and unfortunately or fortunately (whichever way you look at it), discovered she had breast cancer. I received this message only early last night and I must admit I shed a tear or two. We exchanged a few replies back and forth and I was astonished how positive my friend was. The prognosis is good, caught early and gratitude was more prevalent than feeling sorry for herself. Here are key NHS facts on breast screening: In the UK, the NHS Breast Screening Programme automatically invites women aged 50 up to their 71st birthday, receiving their first invitation letter between the ages of 50 and 53 provided they are registered with a GP as female. Screening is offered every 3 years. If you are 71 or over, you will no longer receive automatic invitations, but you can still request a free screening every 3 years by contacting your local breast screening unit. If you have a high risk or family history of breast cancer, speak to your GP, as you may be eligible for earlier or more frequent screening. Regardless of age, check your breasts or chest regularly for any changes like lumps, dimpling, or nipple changes. If you spot anything unusual at any age, do not wait for a screening invitation, book an appointment with your GP straight away. So if you haven’t had a chance to get checked or you’ve ignored or misplaced that letter you’ve received asking you to contact the doctors for a mammogram, do it now! I’m so proud of my lovely friend for getting off her arse and getting tested and even prouder how she is handling this news. A fabulous way to start this weekend. Life is precious. 1 in 7 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. Be proactive about your health please x

Beyoncé’s Message via Official Site: “My family and I started attending St. John’s Church when I was just a little girl, maybe 10 or 11 years old. Pastor Rudy had just founded the church, and back then, it was a small congregation. But it felt like a family. There was a warmth in that church, a familiarity, a sense of belonging. It was a place where I truly felt connected to God. That’s where I really learned to sing. I learned to feel a song before even thinking about the notes. I’d sit with the melody, study it, think about the words and what they meant to me. It wasn’t just about singing something beautifully. I remember when we opened the Knowles-Roland Youth Center in 1999. We were so young and had just received our first number one single with Destiny’s Child. One of the first things we wanted to do was give back to the community that had given us so much. When I was a kid, our house was always full of children. My mom had that kind of home where everyone knew they could come if they needed a place to stay. If someone was struggling in school, getting bullied, or getting into some trouble, they knew they could come to our house.” — Beyoncé on the opening of 31 housing centers built by her and Kelly Rowland in Houston
